Try Zotero Reader for tablet

Update: Zotero Reader Web is now freely available.

Zotero is a citation manager that I adore. Previously, I lamented that it’s troublesome to sync a Zotero library to a tablet. I’ve just finished a simple app to give you an easy way to view your Zotero library on the go. Kind of like Pocket (formerly read it later) but for papers instead of webpages.

I call it Zotero Reader. It’s created with jQuery Mobile, the libZotero library and zotero’s API. I’m using it now on my Samsung tablet running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and it is pretty slick, if I may say so. I’m looking for Zotero users to try it out so I can get some feedback and work out the kinks. Shoot me an email at patrick DOT mineault AT gmail DOT com if you’re interested.

    Dear Patrick,
Congratulations, and thank you for breaking the android tablet barrier for Zotero! I just left a comment on another forum about how wonderful the app seems, how already complete it appears to be (to me at least), and how relieved I am to be using it comfortably (this was the last piece I was struggling to put in place to complete my transition to an Android tablet from my good ol laptop—for everything, including research). The only irritation was Firefox (30) which kept trying to block my access to the site, until I made it do a permanent exception to make it stop bugging me.
Am I right in thinking the app is complete or at least fully usable now? And, I was wondering, since it immediately and smoothly connected to and pulled in the entire contents of my Zotero library in the cloud, are these contents sitting on my tablet (as they would in a standalone desktop Zotero app) or are they somewhere on a website (your’s, since I am accessing the app on the web)? If they are sitting on my tablet, I’ll need to use an sd card or something eventually (my tablet has 16gb).
Anyway, thank you so much for doing this–and my very best wishes for a productive career that I know is waiting for you!
